American Politics is one of the most interesting things for me. While a lot of people ridicule American history, I kind of adore it. The nation that brought out democracy, that had explicit definition of rights and that had an uninterrupted streak of elections and rule of law hundred years before the rest of the world even started thinking about it is no small thing. Thinkers like Emerson, Warriors like Washington, diplomats like Jefferson, intellectuals like Franklin, leaders like Roosevelt, Writers like Thoreau have graced this holy land.
America defines the standards for the rest of the world and an election here is definitely one of the most watched events in the world. This blog will follow the processes, issues, candidates and commentries as I've grown to distrust the mainstream media in giving an bipartisan unbiased view of the system. Either they are dems or reps, and I dont like this black-white polarizations. Both sides have brought some of the best leaders in the history and I'm pained that some of the major issues for the nation are swept aside and much smaller issues like gay/abortion rights & religion hog the national politics more than anytime in the history.
While I dont guarantee to give an unbiased view, as I'm slightly biased towards Rudy Giuliani
(REP) & Hillary Clinton and Al Gore (DEM), I'll still try to be as objective as possible. And bit biased against over projection of smaller social issues (particularly Roe Vs Wade) as a sole criterion for selecting the President of the world's most powerful nation.
This election is as crucial as the 1932 election (of FDR) due to the perilous condition of the external world & the state of the economy. The rise of economic competitors like India & China, Brazil were nothing like in the past (when smaller countries like Japan & Germany competited) and the politically it cant get worse. North Korea has become a nuclear power, Iran is recalcitrant and sitting on a huge pile of oil money, Venezuala is forming a big commy block in latin america, China is flexing muscles, Russia has risen back from ashes, War against terror is going nowhere and there is always IRAQ. So, I expect some fireworks in this election if the Americans dont be stupid enough harping on race/gender and smaller social issues.
